The Cleaner's Name

Story retold · The KnotdKids reading team · For readers in Primary 3 · Three parts · 6 minutes to read

Everybody deserves respect

Free

A man cleans Tom's school from half past six in the morning until five at night. For two and a half years Tom walks past him twice a day and never says good morning. Then a class project sends Tom out to the bins with a list of questions, and question one is what is your name. The new word is respect.

This is one of six books that are free to read, one for every year group. The other 54 come with a plan — HKD 79 a month, cancel any time.

Who is in the story

Before we begin

A man cleans Tom's school. In part one he has no name, because nobody has ever asked for it.

Notice what Tom knows about him at the start of part one, and what he knows by the end of part two.

The new word is respect. It means treating somebody as a whole person who matters, and it starts with noticing them.
